Bought a Harley

I bought a Harley a week or so ago and so far, I love it.  It’s a 2008 Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200 Low with a few custom add-ons:  Vance & Hines slip on pipes, fairing, touring sundowner seat, and chrome crash bars.    Rides great, feels great, sounds great, looks great.. etc.   Definitely not going to be taking on any passengers for a while, as I’m not down with the responsibility, and I’m reminded by everyone (except my parents) that I’m going crazy for having bought it.   I think I may have finally bought something that will convince my dad to come down and visit 🙂

Indoor Rock-Climbing in Raleigh Last Weekend

I went rock-climbing last weekend at Vertical Edge… AWESOME.   Definitely can’t wait to go back.   It is awesome to be a situation where the only limitation is yourself.. You see other people doing an orange wall with ease, and you’re standing there on a green, clinging to the wall, feeling stuck, with no idea on which direction you should take… and then BAM!  it hits you to try something a little bit differently, and it makes all the difference in the world.   Can’t wait to get some gear and hit a real wall! The fortunate thing about Vertical Edge is that I can belay some kids for a few hours on the weekends, and then I get a free pass for a couple of days of climbing…. Guess what I’ll be doing this weekend ?

A buddy of mine (drummer in this video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy4MEPJ7npo) sent me a video of this guy who does free climbing and when he gets to the top, he base jumps…   definitely look forward to the day that I have the hutzpah to try it out.

Can someone please clean up the Gulf already?

I realize that it’s difficult to accept responsibility sometimes, but its an achievement we all have to face at some point in our lives.  Until this mess is stopped and cleaned up, it doesn’t matter who’s fault it is… really.  Just fix it, pay the bills, the fines, the PR, etc…  and if it was the fault of Haliburton, or Joe Plumber, or whomever, you can take them to civil court and try to get your money back.   In the meantime, clean up the mess..  Oh, and thanks for not paying in money in US taxes last year, that was awesome… Oh, and thanks for raising gas prices right now even though the price for a barrel of oil is dropping.. Oh, and stop being so lame.

Here are a couple of interesting notes from the web:

Here is a great video by Rachel Maddow of MSNBC talking about the unfortunate coincidences between this oil spill and oil spills in history:

Here’s something we can fix about Health Insurance

Most insurance policies provide coverage for claims arising from a loss that occured during a policy period.    When I say most insurance policies, I mean to say all that I can think of with the exception of health insurance.

For example.   If you are in a car accident, but your policy lapses 2 days later.  That accident is covered.  They are responsible to pay for the damages, medical bills, etc..  (all within your limits of course!)…. but it doesn’t matter that you no longer have insurance with them.  You paid for coverage during that period of time.

Liability insurance?… you betcha 🙂  They are responsible to for any claims stemming from incidents that occurred during your policy effective dates.  If I have liability insurance for two years, and then I switch companies.   If a claim comes up for something that happened during the time I had insurance with the first company  (lets say someone waits a few years to sue me..) then the company I had coverage with at that time is responsible. Gateway LX 6810 Desktop PC

I recently purchased a refurbed Gateway LX 6810 Desktop PC on a pretty sweet deal <500.  I’m not a fan of buying a built desktop, but this one had a lot of great components and a few features I was looking for:

  • Gateway PC OverheatsNvidia GT120 Graphics Card with 1gb video RAM.  DVI, CRT, and HDMI output.
  • Intel Quad Core processor
  • 8gb RAM
  • HD TV Tuner Card
  • 7.1 Dolby surround
  • Built in memory-card reader
  • Free 64-bit Windows 7 upgrade
  • Expandable
  • Slick looking case (living room friendly)
  • Keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc..

Anyway, the one thing it is lacking are case fans.  There are 0 when you buy it.  There is a CPU fan and a fan on the video card, but thats it.  If you buy this computer, you will need to install at least one 120mm fan in the back of the case… I recommend adding an 80mm in the lower front.  It will cost you about $15 and 10 min, but it will save you all the trouble an overheated PC offers.

HP Update to Fix Error of Update Won’t Update Because of Error while Updating… lol

Every once in a while I run across an error that cracks me up.  In this case, I’ve been trying to install updates on an HP computer, and keep receiving an “installation cancelled” error… even though I am definitely no cancelling this install.    I researched the issue, and found that HP was releasing an update to fix the problem…………….  HOWEVER… I can’t install the update to fix the problem because the problem of installing updates still exist..  Oy vey!
